Two tech firms in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have teamed up for a satellite-enabled artificial intelligence (AI) solution for oil and gas companies.
AI pioneer nybl and the UAE’s AI-powered space technology company Space42 have launched a satellite-enabled AI solution that will help companies optimize the efficiency and productivity of their oil wells, according to a news release from Space42’s satellite mobility arm Thuraya.
The new solution is focused on developing AI-powered satellite communications (SatComs) solutions. The collaboration allows Thuraya to deliver these capabilities to its customers through the nybl AI platform, n.lift.
The launch follows the successful implementation of the solution on 27 oil wells using an oil-and-gas-specific AI module, conducted over six months. The AI-powered solution can accurately predict potential failures of Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESP), allowing oil and gas companies to address issues before they occur, reducing production downtime, Thuraya said.
Based on the proof of concept (POC), the solution provides real-time intelligence that can lower operational costs, extend the lifespan of pumps by 20 to 30 percent, increase production delivery of oil wells by five percent, and run operating wells more efficiently, predicting imminent, non-trending failures. It also improves efficient reservoir, energy and production management, Thuraya outlined.
“The agreement supports nybl’s strategic growth plan while aligning with Space42’s vision to leverage SpaceTech to enable industries by utilizing advanced geospatial and satellite technologies and AI to drive innovation and efficiency across various sectors,” according to the release.
Thuraya CEO Sulaiman Al Ali said, “We are proud to be at the forefront of developing AI-powered SatCom solutions that can help oil and gas players make informed decisions to enhance operational efficiencies. As we embark on the next phase of our journey as Space42, we will continue to offer access to accurate, reliable communication solutions to allow seamless connectivity, and real-time data transmission that will streamline operations for customers around the world”.
Noor Alnahhas, co-founder and CEO of nybl, said, “We are pleased to see this innovative solution certified and implemented through the successful integration of the nybl AI platform with Thuraya’s AI-powered SatCom solutions. It is a clear testament to the opportunities this agreement with Thuraya brings, allowing us to leverage the strengths, synergies and core capabilities from both entities, creating a unique offering of transformative AI-powered solutions and global ambitions to across various industries. Our vision is to further advance UAE technological capabilities, in line with our long-term commitment to increasing local value and contribute to the economic and technological development of the region”.
According to the company’s website, Thuraya is the mobile satellite services subsidiary of the UAE-based Al Yah Satellite Communications Company P.J.S.C. (Yahsat), which is a public company and subsidiary of Mubadala Investment Company. Established in 1997, Thuraya is the UAE’s first home-grown satellite operator. The company offers communications solutions in a variety of sectors.
Earlier in the month, Space42 made its trading debut on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) today after the merger completion of Bayanat, an AI-powered geospatial solutions provider, and. Yahsat, the UAE’s flagship satellite solutions provider.
Integrating Bayanat’s advanced geospatial analytics and Yahsat’s leading satellite communications with AI capabilities enables Space42 to address the rapidly evolving needs of the global SpaceTech industry. The combined capabilities deliver advanced business intelligence solutions to governments, enterprises, and communities, according to an earlier statement from Space42.
